Glensheen’s Shark on Lake Superior Beach

Duluth Mom never turns down an opportunity to spend time on the glorious grounds of the Glensheen Mansion so you better believe we took advantage of a Perfect Duluth Day last week and held a team-building retreat as the breeze blew through the trees on the Glensheen lawn.

We found a couple of tables that allowed us to keep an eye on Clark the Shark who was lurking around the beach.

Shark on the Lake is a  1-5pm *shine only* extra offered by Glensheen when you take a mansion tour, or you can purchase a grounds ticket ($5/person over 15) and enjoy ice cream from Love Creamery and drinks from Catering by Bellisios at the bar. Both Love Creamery and Bellisios take credit cards, but come prepared for cash in case a machine is down. Nothing worse than a kid screaming for ice cream, or a parent without a beverage! The Sharktail signature drink is delish.

You can swim in Lake Superior from the beach, but do so at your own risk. The beach itself is a quintessential Northshore beach–full of pebbles and rock–which is perfect for beach glass hunting and stone skipping. I recommend dipping your toes in those cool lake waters!

Mansion tours open this summer. They are super kid-friendly; there’s even a designated bench and changing area just for moms to feed and change babies. Talk about Duluth Mom approved!

Through August 31st you can tour the mansion and your kiddos can hunt for sharks. There are 16 of them hidden throughout the mansion just waiting to be spotted by a keen eye. Glensheen has always taken extra precaution to keep visitors safe so make sure you check out their rules and protocols before you arrive.

The Duluth Mom team had a great time discussing about how we can grow and diversify our team, and how we can continue to create relevant content for the moms of Duluth. Our goal is to always equip, inspire, and encourage moms.

We chatted so much that we didn’t get a chance to wander the grounds much before closing time, so if you go, we suggest making a whole afternoon of it and exploring all 12 acres! You could also visit more than once so you don’t have to tackle too much in one day with your kids.

We know that the above picture is just a small portion of our Duluth Mom team and that it does not come close to representing the complete mom population in Duluth. We appreciate the grace you give us as we keep learning and growing. Let’s keep the conversation going; we are happy to listen and happy to share a space where all moms can contribute content if they wish to do so.

We are always honored to have the opportunity to spend time at the historic Glensheen here in Duluth!

A lake girl at heart, Andrea is thrilled to be a Duluthian! She lives in the Hillside with her husband, daughter (plus two angel babies that are with them in spirit), and two rescue pups. As a bi-racial and multicultural family, they have hopes and dreams of visiting her husband’s family in South Korea someday soon. Tiny joys that make her heart happy include: doodling, searching for sea glass, coffee with friends, fiber art, plants, a good vintage thrift find, music and great food & drinks. She also finds purpose in serving on the Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Justice (DEIJ) committee at her daughter’s school, and also on City Mom Collective’s Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) committee. You will find her building community, connections and friendships in the northland as the owner of Duluth Mom. She invites you to visit her on Instagram or on LinkedIn.
