Crochet a Rag Rug

March 25 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

$35

Rag rugs have a long history and continue the tradition of reusing fabrics in a sustainable way. Traditional braided rugs can last years, but over time the thread used to sew the braids together can deteriorate and create holes. With crocheted rugs, there is no sewing meaning they hold up better. In this class students will learn how to create a smooth join to connect strips of scrap fabric and crochet them into the start of a rug. A prior knowledge of crochet is helpful, but not required. Students should bring a size N, P, or Q sized crochet hook, a pair of sharp scissors, and cotton scraps* of their choice.

March 25, 5:30pm – 8:30 pm
$35 per student, best for ages 13 and up
Please remember to bring: sharp scissors, N, P, or Q crochet hook, scrap cotton fabrics*

*Students should gather scrap cotton fabric in colors of their choice. Old sheets, cotton shirts, and T-shirts work well. Additional fabric will be available. If possible, cut into 3/4 to 1 inch strips. Rotary cutters will be available in class.

Theresa Hornstein has been crafting since childhood. She teaches classes in crochet, knitting, natural dyes, felting, and sustainable crafting. She is a current member of Nice Girls of the North and a former member of the Bayfield Artists Guild.
