Rainbow Walk: Add Color to Your Exercise

A few years ago, I was really into getting my steps in big time! So, one day, I needed to get about 10 miles in  (walking only, that is!), and I didn’t want to do my normal route and routine. I decided to brighten it up a little! Here’s what I did!

As a preschool teacher by trade, I do a lot of themed activities. I took a “rainbow theme” and walked with it! Step one (pun intended), walk until you find something red and take a picture by it. I know you have your phone on ya! Continue through the whole rainbow.

Are you thinking, “Thanks Becky! Great idea! But what colors are in the rainbow again?”  No worries, I understand. The only way I can remember it is by saying “Roy G. Biv”….red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet. Were you one of those people who learned that years ago, who has to say that out loud to get the colors? I hope so, otherwise it’s only me!

As you would guess, some of these colors will be found easily and quickly.  Enjoy them, because the next color may not be for miles!

My #1 rule

Go in order. Yes, it would be so much easier to find them in any order, but that’s not as good for getting miles in, or as much fun!

My#2 rule: Have fun!

I want you to take a minute and think about where you could find those colors. I know, for me, I could find red at my grandparents house, by their red car. That was about 1.5 miles away. Orange was easy with construction season in full bloom. Then yellow. My mom’s front door. That was another 1.5 miles. This was easy. However, I will let you know that violet and indigo are not easy.

When you take pictures of yourself at each color, post it on social media. You can choose to tell the world what you’re doing or have them figure it out on their own. I had people be inspired to make a rainbow picture with their kids, go for a walk, and even join me along the way.

Want to put the rainbow in any order? Play it as a game with your kiddo on the way to the park instead. See what colors they can find and keep track!

I hope you are getting a chance to enjoy the fall!
