ISO: Best Mom Friend

2

I have never been the best at making friends. I can be reserved at first and am not good at small talk so diving in and meeting new people has been hard for me since we moved to the Duluth area over a year ago.  Don’t get me wrong, I have plenty of acquaintances and a few good friends nearby but what I am really looking for is a Best Mom Friend–like a Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake kind of friendship but with a fellow mom. If you think you can handle the following there is a good possibility you could be my new Best Mom Friend!

  1. My house is messy. I have two 50-pound white dogs, a toddler, and 2 jobs. My house is never clean. Don’t even think about coming through the door wearing black; you will leave covered in dog hair and snot. My house is not going to be on the next episode of Hoarders, but you better be able to overlook the dust bunnies, some dirty dishes, and a pile or 2 of mail on the counter. (FYI…robot vacuums are the best!)
  2. Someone who is okay with my “lazy” parenting style. It’s not like I prop my kid in front of the TV 24/7. We do activities–nothing to extravagant and messy–and head out on adventures–nothing that will interfere with nap time–and I hope my new Best Friend will be willing to join in on those adventures, but I also need someone who is all right with turning on a movie or handing over the iPad so we can have a few minutes of uninterrupted grownup talk.
  3. I am not a huge drinker but I do enjoy a glass or wine or beer every once in a while. The new “mom culture” always seems to revolve around moms getting together and drinking wine. I am totally fine if you want to drink an entire box of wine in one sitting but don’t be offended if I only want one glass, or even none at all.
  4. My kid eats McDonald’s, and candy, and processed foods… and so do I. We also eat fruits and veggies and well-rounded meals. Some nights I have ice cream for dinner and you are welcome to join me if you want! If you and your kids want to eat organic, you will probably have to bring your own snacks but I won’t judge. Heck you could possibly even make me more of a believer! If you or your kids have food allergy I will do my best to accommodate you all and make my house and food choices safe for everyone.
  5. It would be great if my new best friend liked sports of all kinds. We are big sports fans: hockey football, curling and more. Most nights you will find us watching some sort of sport on TV.  I am not really picky about who you cheer for as long as you are friendly about it.
  6. I need someone who is OK with doing nothing. Come over in your sweatpants and just chill. We will watch HGTV or the Food Channel and let the kids run around like maniacs. Be prepared to order pizza or eat ice cream for dinner because I don’t always want to entertain, I just want to hangout.
  7. I don’t really wear make-up and I almost always have my hair up in a ponytail so no need to be fancy.
  8. I like Coffee and Target and I have a sweet tooth. It would be great if we could bond over these things.
  9. Family is the most important.
  10. I will drop anything to help a friend in need. Need a lift, a babysitter or a shoulder to cry on? I will be there for you and I hope this feeling is mutual!

We all have different life styles, parenting styles, opinions, likes, and needs so I totally understand if my style isn’t for you. I am looking for someone who will not judge me and my parenting and lifestyle decisions but someone who will lift me up and make me a better person. But let’s be honest, I am really just looking for someone to come over in their sweatpants and eat ice cream with me!
