Protect Your Skin

Every woman wants her skin to look and feel as healthy as possible. This is especially true as the years pass by. However, while the aging axioms like “age is just a number” and “you’re only as old as you feel” are true, some days it can seem like your skin didn’t get the memo. Fortunately, even though some factors of aging are outside your immediate control, there are things you can do to keep your skin healthy.

A good starting point is to protect your skin from the sun and stay hydrated. Sun exposure prematurely ages the skin, causes blotches and spots, and can lead to skin cancers. Tanning beds are a particularly bad idea. To combat the sun’s harsh rays, use a lotion with sunscreen every day (even during the Duluth winters). Drinking enough water every day is another easy way to improve the appearance and resilience of your skin. Ideally, you should drink 128 ounces of water every day.

Help Damaged Skin

Finally, there are a few minor procedures that can help with skin damage that may already have occurred. These are all available at St. Luke’s Plastic Surgery Associates:

BBL: BBL (Broad Band Light) light therapy treatment used to target pigmentation and redness. This is a great anti-aging treatment. There are studies showing that patients who have the treatments done three to four times over a ten-year period can actually look younger than before they started having treatments.

Laser Resurfacing: This procedure exfoliates the outer layer of dead skin. The result is skin that has a youthful, healthful glow.

Botox: Particularly effective in erasing wrinkles and smile lines, Botox is administered through an injection.

Fillers: These injections add firmness and fullness to areas of your face, creating a more youthful appearance.

She also finds purpose in serving on the Diversity, Inclusion, Equity and Justice (DEIJ) committee at her daughter’s school, and also on City Mom Collective’s Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility (IDEA) committee.
